Is Stockholm an eco-friendly city?

Image
Visiting Stockholm was an amazing experience to us! You can reach the city easily from Uppsala, travelling by train, which is inexpensive and comfortable unless you make a mistake and take one of the slow trains which stop at every single station. So beware! The city center might be a bit confusing because of the location of the city on a group of islands but, it is precisely this feature what makes it unique and beautiful. The fact of being able to move from one island to another, adds a little magic to the experience and a visit to Skansen is a must. It is an open-air museum which displays typical ancient wooden houses and farms from all over the country. It's a very interesting place in terms of environmental care as it makes you think about the materails used to build houses. We wanted to try and find out hints which could prove if the city (or at least what we saw of it) can be considered eco-friendly or not. And we found a few...  CLICK TO SEE.

GROWING LOOFAH

Image
Have you ever heard of loofah? Well, it's a natural vegetable which looks a bit like a pumpkin or a courgette fruit. It's a climbing plant with strong tendrils which allow it to climb onto any surface or structure: walls, rods, metal nets and so on. In the photograph, you can see small fruits growing from the female flower in a plant which was cultivated in a terrace and was planted in a large flower pot. What's special about this plant?, you may ask yourself. You can eat its fruit when it's young and fresh. If you let it grow and get dry, then you will get a nice scourer to wash your dishes or a sponge for your daily shower. You won't need to buy any more of these artificial products! ZERO WASTE ORIGIN

Image
Zero Waste is a project that was started bearing in mind the need for a change in our lifestyles if we want to preserve planet Earth. Six schools from several European countries, namely: Poland, Estonia, Sweden, Romania, Italy and Spain are taking part in the project. In two previous Erasmus+ projects: Upcycling Lives, developed at IES Canido (2021-2023) and Up cycling: A Project from Bottom to Top, developed at  Szkola Podstawowa Nr w Bieruniu, some  initiatives which we are planning to develop in this new project were born. Some of them, to name but a few, are the planting, harvesting and use of loofah, the production of soap at school, continuing with upcycling workshops, writing emails to different firms to suggest changes in the management of their containers and investigating which initiatives are developed in each participating country in terms of environmental care. The other schools have brought with them new enriching ideas such as growing a school garden, which will...
