GROWING LOOFAH

Have you ever heard of loofah? Well, it's a natural vegetable which looks a bit like a pumpkin or a courgette fruit. It's a climbing plant with strong tendrils which allow it to climb onto any surface or structure: walls, rods, metal nets and so on.

In the photograph, you can see small fruits growing from the female flower in a plant which was cultivated in a terrace and was planted in a large flower pot.
What's special about this plant?, you may ask yourself. You can eat its fruit when it's young and fresh. If you let it grow and get dry, then you will get a nice scourer to wash your dishes or a sponge for your daily shower. You won't need to buy any more of these artificial products!
