FASHION: Visit to the university in Ferrol

Last February 2025, IES Canido hosted an Erasmus+ mobility in Ferrol.

The participants were students and teachers from Tallin (Estonia), Bierun (Poland), Verona (Italy) and Uppsala (Sweden) together with our own students and teachers from Ferrol (Spain). We were a really large group, which was difficult to handle, but we did our best and think all in all it was a very nice experience through which everybody learnt something and enjoyed our Spanish way of life!

The mobility took place from February 10th till February 14th, with a total number of participants of more than 70 people and the presence of an expert in the fields of recycling and upcycling, called Aravella Salonikidou, and a group of students and teachers from Verona who are working in professional studies in fashion.

We had a talk and several workshops with Aravella Salonikidou, which will be shown in another post, we investigated how SOGAMA (Galician society for the care of the environment, also in another post) works and visited the Fashion studies facilities at the campus in Ferrol. At the same time, we arranged a visit to the Pull&Bear failities in Polígono Río do Pozo for the Italian group.

At the fashion college, we attended a talk about sustainability in fashion and later, we explored the facilities of a variety of degrees.

We are very thankful to the campus in Ferrol.

ZERO WASTE ORIGIN

Zero Waste is a project that was started bearing in mind the need for a change in our lifestyles if we want to preserve planet Earth. Six schools from several European countries, namely: Poland, Estonia, Sweden, Romania, Italy and Spain are taking part in the project. In two previous Erasmus+ projects: Upcycling Lives, developed at IES Canido (2021-2023) and Up cycling: A Project from Bottom to Top, developed at  Szkola Podstawowa Nr w Bieruniu, some  initiatives which we are planning to develop in this new project were born. Some of them, to name but a few, are the planting, harvesting and use of loofah, the production of soap at school, continuing with upcycling workshops, writing emails to different firms to suggest changes in the management of their containers and investigating which initiatives are developed in each participating country in terms of environmental care. GARBAGE DISTINCTION AND PROCESSING IN ESTONIA In this post, you will learn about how the collection of trash is encouraged in Estonia by getting the user a small refund when he/she returns an empty packaging. It works. It has been noticed in other countries like Sweden, for example. The visit to this transformation factory brought a deeper understanding of what you can get from waste when it is segregated and processed adequately.
